5th graders are going to create papier mache vases very soon. However, in order to make them, we need to collect a few things. We need balloons for the armature, and we need newspaper for the papier mache. We have all the other materials necessary for this project. Please, if you are willing to donate a pack of balloons or newspaper, please do so before winter break. Thank you so much!

On the last studio day of a project, there are often students that finish early. Art teachers refer to these students as "early finishers". These students often vary in skill set, and they are usually finished early for various reasons. However, they have a very good question, "What do I do now?" Well, this week we are celebrating the Fall season, and using the leaves that fell in our recent rain downpour as inspiration and tools for painting. The students are using them as stencils to create a painting that includes the Fall colors (or, also known as warm colors). This is a great, easy, "crafty" lesson that the students can get creative with, and can succeed at his or her own level.
The fourth graders are learning about complementary colors, painting with tempera paint, and painting lines that express movement. They painted while listening to strings music. Each song was unique, therefore the paintings varied according to what each student heard. Their paintings look like the music sounded. Now that they have two paintings that contrast in color, they are cutting them into strips and weaving them together to create a one-of-a-kind composition.
